How Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot and Gemini Are Becoming Operating Layers for Work

The next phase of AI is not about which chatbot gives the best answer. It is about which system can understand your context, use your tools, execute multi-step work, and stay with a task until the job is finished.

The article emphasizes that while surfaces converge, architectures and what each system can access (context, tools, permissions, execution environment, governance) are the real differentiators—especially as connectivity via protocols like MCP and tool ecosystems become standard. It concludes that the assistant/agent boundary is disappearing and that the next competitive frontier is understanding how these systems manage context, choose tools, delegate to subagents, execute safely in sandboxes, and recover from mistakes over long-running workflows.
